Yes, you can buy complete kits. For more info, check out the water heater page at my source.
Sure they do, but there is so much involved with getting the solar energy to usable electricity. Things that only licensed contractors should do.
Just go to the hardware store and buy come 3/4 inch Copper tubing. Get some plywood and sheet insulation and a few two by fours. You will need clear plastic to cover the top where the sun shines in. Paint the inside of the box black and set it in the sun and it will get very hot. You just need to move the water through it.
Think about it this way.. If you buy a garden water hose and paint it black and lay it on your roof. The water inside it will be so hot it will burn the skin from your hand. If it is a 1 inch water hose and 100 foot long zig zaging back and forth you could have enough hot water mixed with cold water to take a long shower.
Here is some free solar air/room heater plans to get you started. Just build the thing with copper tubes inside it hooked into your water supply. Or you could put anti freeze in it and run the tubes inside a water tank to heat water. But you will need a pump on it then.
